Explore the rich history of St John’s Regional College through this timeline of key events that have shaped our journey and legacy
Early 1950s
St John’s Regional College began when the parish priests of the region recognised the need for a secondary boys’ school in the area.
1957
De La Salle Brothers commit to staffing St John’s.
1958
St John’s Boys School opened with Brother Amedy Molloy as the founding Principal.
1959
New building in New St completed to accommodate the growing number of students.
1966
St John’s becomes a Regional College serving the parishes of St Mary’s, Dandenong, St Gerard’s, North Dandenong, St Anthony’s, Noble Park, Holy Family, Doveton and St Michael’s, Berwick.
November 1967
the buildings in Caroline St were officially opened and blessed by Archbishop Knox
1968
the stepping stones to Co-Education through sharing of resources and teachers between St Angela’s and St John’s
1971
Senior co-education classes were conducted on the Caroline Street campus.
1977
St John’s becomes the first Catholic co-educational Regional College in the nation. This development coincided with significant enrolment increases.
Currently
St John’s continues to serve the parishes of St Mary’s, Dandenong, Holy Family, Doveton, St Paul Apostle, Endeavour Hills, St Kevin’s, Hampton Park and St Anthony’s, Noble Park as well as the priority parishes of Resurrection, Keysborough and St Gerard’s, North Dandenong.
